Red Sea Research Project Kickoff

CaResS Geology ​Red Sea Research project has taken off with a research cruise at Al-Wahj lagoon and an onshore survey of the coastal areas associated with the lagoon. A team of 5 members from ANPERC visited the study area from 17th July to 29th July 2018. The team includes Prof. Volker Vahrenkamp, Dr. Pankaj Khanna, and PhD student Bora Yalcin from CaResS Geology group along with Research Scientist Marco Terzariol and Dr. Joshua Smith from Prof. Juan Carlos Santamarina's EGEL group.

Red Sea 3-

To peak into sub-bottom sediments, a sub-bottom profiler was used; Van Veen​ grab and camera were used to sample and photograph the sediments on the sea-floor.

Red Sea 5-

CaResS group conducted research onboard R/V KAUST Explorer with the crew from CMOR, KAUST.

Red Sea 2-

Research onshore included hand held sampling as well as drill core sampling.
