Understanding earth’s history, the processes that formed it and the way in which it affected former lifeforms. Studying modern and ancient carbonates on a larger and smaller spatial and temporal scale allows us to look into the past by reconstructing paleoenvironmental conditions, giving valuable insights into the present and future climate changes and their associated consequences.
